Accessibility Policy
Built so every visitor can find their shade, place an order, and reach a real person.
Polar Hair Co Inc designs polarhairofficial.com to work for the widest range of people we can reach, including customers who use a screen reader, screen magnification, voice control, or navigate entirely by keyboard. Below is exactly what standard we hold ourselves to, what’s already built in, what we’re still improving, and how to tell us directly when something isn’t working for you.
Our commitment to accessible shopping
Gray hair doesn’t check for ability first
Our customers cover every age, hand strength, and level of vision or hearing. Some of you shop with a screen reader, some zoom the page to 200% or more, some navigate entirely by keyboard or switch device, and some simply prefer larger, higher-contrast text. If any of those things describe you, this page is written for you specifically, not as a formality.
What this policy covers
This policy applies to polarhairofficial.com in full: our homepage, the Instant Dye Shampoo product page, our shopping cart and checkout, and every policy and contact page linked from our footer. It also covers customer-service channels — our email inbox, phone line, and live chat — since accessibility doesn’t stop at the browser window.
Polar Hair Co Inc is a small, single-product company based in Houston, Texas, and we review this page ourselves rather than outsourcing it to boilerplate legal text. Where we’ve genuinely built something accessible, we say so specifically. Where we haven’t finished yet, we say that too, in the Where We Still Have Work to Do section below — because a policy that only lists strengths isn’t useful to the person trying to complete an order right now.
We target WCAG 2.1, Level AA
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, at conformance Level AA, are the technical standard most widely recognized for judging whether a website is genuinely usable by people with disabilities — it’s also the standard referenced by U.S. Department of Justice guidance on accessible web content under the Americans with Disabilities Act. We use it to guide every decision on the site, from the shade swatches on our product page to the fields in our checkout form.
Perceivable
Every product photo, before-and-after image, and shade swatch carries written alternative text, and no shade is ever identified by color alone — each one is always paired with its name, such as “Dark Brown” or “Purple.”
Operable
You can browse the shade options, add a bottle to your cart, and complete checkout using only a keyboard, with a visible outline showing exactly where you are on the page at every step.
Understandable
Instructions such as “Lather, Apply, Rinse” and our 10-minute application window are always written out in plain text next to any video, never left as video-only or icon-only information.
Robust
Pages are built with standard, semantic HTML so they work correctly with current and future assistive technology, including screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver.
An honest note on conformance: WCAG 2.1 AA is a target we actively design and test toward, and the majority of the site already meets it. It is not a certification, and we don’t claim the entire site is flawless. Where a specific page or feature doesn’t yet meet the standard, it’s named directly in the Where We Still Have Work to Do section, along with what we’re doing about it.
Accessibility features live on the site today
Written descriptions for every image
Product photography, the shade swatches, and before-and-after images all include descriptive alternative text so a screen reader announces what the image actually shows, not just that an image exists.
Full keyboard navigation
The main menu, shade selector, quantity picker, cart drawer, and checkout fields can all be reached and operated using the Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, and arrow keys, with no mouse required.
Visible focus indicators
When you tab through links, buttons, and form fields, a clear outline shows exactly which element is currently active, so keyboard users are never left guessing where they are on the page.
Text that resizes without breaking
Body copy, prices, and form labels are set in relative units, so the layout reflows cleanly when a visitor increases browser zoom up to 200% or enlarges the default text size on their device.
Sufficient color contrast
Body text, buttons, and form fields are set with enough contrast against their background to meet WCAG 2.1 AA’s contrast thresholds, checked with automated contrast-analysis tools during every redesign.
Ingredients and warnings as real text
The full ingredient list and the coal-tar-dye patch-test caution required under FDA cosmetic labeling rules are published as selectable, readable text on the product page — never locked inside an image only.
Labeled, predictable forms
Every checkout field — name, address, email, payment details — has a programmatic label attached to it, so a screen reader announces what information belongs in each box before you type.
Clear heading structure
Pages use a logical heading order (one main heading, then subheadings beneath it) so screen-reader users can jump straight to the section they need — Ingredients, Shipping, or Reviews — instead of listening to the whole page top to bottom.
Descriptive links and buttons
Links say where they go — “View the full ingredient list,” not “click here” — so anyone tabbing through a list of links out of context still understands each destination.
Where we still have work to do
We would rather tell you exactly what isn’t finished than let you discover it on your own. Here is every known gap and what we’re doing about each one.
Customer demonstration videos
Our product and testimonial videos are currently published without closed captions. These clips show the application process rather than spoken dialogue, and the same steps are always written out in full in the “How to Use” section beside them, but we know captions still matter for anyone who relies on them, and we are adding captions as we produce new video content.
Embedded map on our Contact page
Our location map is provided by a third-party mapping service, and its interactive controls are built and maintained by that provider, not by us. We always place our full mailing address as plain, selectable text directly beside the map, so the location is available to anyone who cannot or prefers not to use the interactive map itself.
Printed instructions and care pamphlet
The instructions and care pamphlet included inside every box is not yet available as a screen-reader-optimized digital file on our site. Until that digital version is published, email or call us and we will read or send you the complete text directly — you never need to wait on us to finish updating the site to get that information.
Found something not listed here? Please tell us. This list reflects what we currently know about; it isn’t a claim that nothing else exists. Every report goes to a real person on our team, not a support queue that never gets read.
How to report an accessibility barrier
If any page, feature, or interaction on polarhairofficial.com is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to know about it right away — not to close the report, but to actually fix the problem.
What to include, and what happens next
Tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology or browser you were using, if any. We acknowledge every accessibility report within 2 business days and aim to provide either a fix or a clear status update within 10 business days. If a fix takes longer than that, we’ll tell you why and when to expect it, rather than let the report go quiet.
If the barrier is preventing you from completing a purchase right now, call us — our team can take your order over the phone using the same pricing, shades, and 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee shown on the site.
How we keep improving, on a real schedule
Automated and manual testing
We run automated accessibility scans (tools such as axe and WAVE) against every page before it goes live, and we manually test key flows — shade selection, cart, and checkout — using keyboard-only navigation and screen readers including NVDA and VoiceOver.
Reviewed at least twice a year
Beyond checks made whenever we launch or redesign a page, we schedule a full accessibility pass across the entire site at least twice yearly, and this policy is updated to reflect exactly what changed.
Trained before they publish
Anyone on our team who edits product listings, images, or copy is trained on writing meaningful alt text, using proper heading structure, and avoiding color-only instructions before they’re allowed to publish changes.
The frameworks this policy is built on
A voluntary commitment, grounded in recognized U.S. standards
Americans with Disabilities Act, Title III
The ADA prohibits disability-based discrimination by places of public accommodation. Online retailers like polarhairofficial.com fall within current U.S. Department of Justice guidance on web and mobile accessibility, which is why we treat accessible design as a baseline requirement, not an optional extra.
WCAG 2.1, Level AA
This is the technical, testable standard we use to measure our own progress, referenced directly by DOJ guidance and adopted internationally as the practical definition of an accessible website.
FDA cosmetic labeling requirements
Because Instant Dye Shampoo contains coal-tar color agents, its caution statement and patch-test instructions are required under 21 CFR 740.18. We keep that safety information in plain, readable text so it’s accessible to the same customers this policy is written for.
What this policy is, and isn’t
This page is a transparent account of our practices and an open invitation to report problems. It is a good-faith operational commitment, not a legal determination of compliance, and it does not replace your right to raise a concern with us directly or through any applicable regulator.
